Panama Ecology

PANAMA ECOLOGY

·         Panama is world known for its ecological diversity, whether it be in plant or in animal life.
·         Since Panama is situated in between Central America and South America it has a unique blend of plants, herbs, vegetables, and tropical fruits.
·         Ecologically, Panama serves as the only land corridor for rare species of birds and other species that migrate between North and South America making bird watching a very popular tourist attraction with over 900 species of birds to find.
·         With over 10,000 species of vascular plants, Panama has an incredibly diverse ecosystem upon which neighboring systems rely.
·         There are over 1500 Orchids species in Panama.
·         The Smithsonian Institution has found Panama as their location for their Institute of Tropical Research.
GEOGRAPHICAL DIVERSITY OF PANAMA

·         Panama has some of the most dense rain forests in the world.
·         Panama’s beaches are usually underpopulated with tourists and sometimes you might be the only one on the beach.
·         In Panama, you’ll fine several mountains where you can see both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Ocean.
·         Panama offers some of the best whitewater rafting and deep-sea sport fishing in the world with their fresh water rivers and the Pacific Ocean.
·         There are more than 1,500 islands off Panama’s coast with crystal clear waters, many of which offer snorkeling and diving opportunities.
·         Surfers like to go to Playa Santa Catalina, where it’s not uncommon to find 10-foot waves. Santa Catalina also the location of surfing competitions.
·         In Panama’s 12 national parks you can see sea turtles, crocodiles, pumas, and jaguars, just to name a few of the native species.
·         Panama is situated between 77° and 83° west longitudes and 7° and 10° north latitudes.
·         Panama covers a total land area of 77,082 square kilometers. The greatest width of Panama is 177 kilometers and it stretches 772 kilometers in length.
·         Panama’s neighboring countries are Costa Rica and Colombia.
·         The Republic of Panama is divided into 9 provinces.
·         The highest point of Panama is Volcan Baru which is known to be a dormant volcano and the tallest mountain in Panama at about 11,000 feet high.
